About this site

The Qur'an or Koran (pronounced "Qor-Ann"), is the Holy Book of the followers of the religion of Islam, the Muslims.

This site contains an English translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, M. H. Shakir and Marmaduke Mohammad Pickthall, as well the ability to view the Arabic script.

Note that an English translation of the Qur'an is an interpretation of the Qur'an, and does not have the perfect status as the Qur'an in its original Arabic form.

The source of our data files for the Yusuf Ali and Pickthall translations is: The Islamic Computing Centre, 73 St. Thomas's Road, London N4 2QJ U.K. Tel:(071) 359 6233, Fax:(071) 226 2024. The files are not in Public domain, and the copy rights of the file still remain with The Islamic Computing Centre. It is not permitted to distribute the file for commercial purposes.

The Shakir translation text came with the following message: "These files are electronically scanned versions of M.H. Shakir's translation of the Holy Qur'an, as published by Tahrike Tarsile Qur'an, Inc., P.O. Box 1115, Elmhurst, New York 11373. The text has passed through a preliminary editing, but is not yet error free. The authentic version of this translation remains the hardcopy offered by the aforementioned publishers, and can be purchased in many bookstores."

The transliteration text has been taken from the MSA-USC site and had this message: "We would like to emphasize that this text is not a substitute for the original Arabic Qur'an. It is only an attempt to help those who are trying to learn to read the Arabic text, since it is as close to the written text as possible. It is important to practice pronouncing the letters as directed in the transliteration table, especially the underlined letters, before starting to read. It will be helpful if an Arabic speaker can help you. This work is free for use to everyone as long as no changes that might distort it are done to it. We request from those who benefit from it to pray for us. We pray to Almighty Allah to help you learn to read the Holy Qur'an, and to do every good thing."
